What's New in 2013

New Years and New Years resolutions are right around the corner. For those of you who will be including healthy eating (which also includes healthy weight loss) as part of your resolution, the www.whfoods.org website is here to help you every step of the way.

As always George features a Food of the Week and Recipe of the Week. Focusing on the Healthiest Way of Eating, he provides hundreds of quick, easy and nutrient-rich recipes, in-home cooking demos on how to prepare many of the World's Healthiest Foods, as well as videos featuring George preparing many of the recipes himself.

Each week in 2013 you will find the website brings you the latest news and scientific discoveries about each of the over 100 World's Healthiest Foods and 33 featured nutrients. George describes the process that goes into the website updates: "Thousands of studies from the most prominent medical journals are reviewed as we do not make public health recommendations on the basis of animal or laboratory research and require one large scale human study before we highlight any health benefit for a particular food" .

In response to Readers' confusion about certain foods such as soybeans that have become controversial in the world of food, George has taken the time to create a list of their "10 Most Controversial WHFoods List." This list was created to let you know that even though some foods (like soybeans) can make an outstanding contribution to your meal plan, and even though they are among our list of the World's Healthiest Foods, they are definitely not for everyone. The controversial nature of these 10 WHFoods usually involves the following factors: (1) unwanted risk of toxicity; (2) unwanted risk of adverse reaction; (3) unwanted risk of irreversible environmental damage; or (4) some combination of these three factors. These 10 foods include:

  • Beef
  • Dairy Foods (Cow's Milk, Cheese, Yogurt)
  • Eggs
  • Nightshade Vegetables (Bell Peppers, Cayenne pepper, Chili pepper, Eggplant, Potatoes, Tomatoes)
  • Peanuts
  • Sea Vegetables
  • Shrimp
  • Soy Foods (Miso, Soybeans, Soy Sauce, Tofu and Tempeh)
  • Tuna
  • Wheat

As always, the testimonials he receives are George's greatest reward, and he receives hundreds of them over the year. Here are just a few examples from last week:

I read your messages daily and have learned a lot...the most important was the need for me to change my diet. I have and since March this year I have lost 43 lbs. but more importantly I feel 10 years younger with a lot more energy.â€"WM

I am absolutely thrilled to have found your site! The recipes on here are fantastic. They are great tasting without being very complicated; and I absolutely love all of the information you provide on the dishes. I also love that plenty of the ingredients are reused so I can get a feel on different ways to use something I had previously never encountered in my cooking.â€"RA

I just wanted to thank you for writing this book. My sister got it when she graduated med school and let me read it. This book makes nutrition so much easier for me- I understand all of the wonderful things in food that make me strong and healthy- not fat and ugly. Eating the 100 healthiest foods is not scary, it's exciting! I've seen the wrinkles in my forehead efface, my teeth whiten, my hands and feet warm, a glow arise in my complexion, joint pain cease, hair become thick and full, and on and on. Anyway, you are a blessing.â€"AS

I love my book "The World's Healthiest Foods" that I purchased this year. I use it constantly. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and putting together this masterpiece of knowledge. If everyone in this wonderful country of ours had a copy, it would change our healthcare crisis.â€"W
