Lara Pizzorno, M.A. (Div)., M.A. (Lit), L.M.T

A member of the American Medical Writers Association with 25+ years of experience writing and editing articles, books and website content for physicians and the public, Lara Pizzorno is employed as Senior Medical Editor for SaluGenecists, Inc., Seattle, WA, where her favorite responsibility is reviewing and summarizing the nutrition-related research to update the e-dition of the Textbook of Natural Medicine and The World's Healthiest Foods website (www.whfoods.org), which was developed by SaluGenecists for the George Mateljan Foundation.

A member of the Institute for Functional Medicine for more than 14 years, Lara is a graduate of the IFM's Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice and a contributing author to the Textbook of Functional Medicine (IFM, 2006). Among her recent publications, Lara writes clinical pearls for Integrative Medicine: A Clinician's Journal (Innovisions Communications,Inc.), is a contributing author to the Textbook of Natural Medicine (2nd ed., 1999, 3rd ed. 2005), lead author of Natural Medicine Instructions for Patients (Elsevier, 2002), a co-author of The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods (Scribner's, 2005, ), and contributing writer and editor for The World's Healthiest Foods Essential Guide for the healthiest way of eating (George Mateljan Foundation, 2006).

Lara graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude in Religious Studies from Wheaton College in 1970, and was one of the first 10 women admitted to Yale Divinity School, receiving her Master's in Religious Studies with Honors in 1973. She earned her second Master's in Literature from the University of Washington in 1986 and has also been a licensed massage therapist since 1986. Lara's favorite avocation is cooking delicious, healthy meals for her family and friends. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Dr. Joe Pizzorno, N.D., son, Galen, and feline buddy, Smidge.
